Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition have each sold over 1 million units, Microsoft has announced.

While exact sales figures for each title have not been revealed, Microsoft says that the games helped Xbox One console sales continue to outpace Xbox 360 "at the same point in time in the Xbox 360 generation, making it the best-selling console in Xbox console history".

"2015 was a monumental year for Xbox – the biggest in our history – and we owe it all to our gaming community," said Microsoft. "We saw record global engagement and sales fuelled by high demand for our greatest games line-up and hardware and accessories like the best-selling Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle and our Elite Controller. Every title in our exclusive 2015 holiday games line-up – Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6 andGears of War: Ultimate Edition – sold over 1 million units, and the number of Xbox One gamers who played Microsoft Studios-published titles more than doubled compared to 2014."

SOURCE

That's good to hear for Forza 6 and Halo 5, which many had feared had bombed- those games apparently did pretty well, all said and done. It is also very good to hear Xbox One is still tracking over the Xbox 360. That said, if 1 million units sold is all we are getting, I am wondering if the game may not have underperformed, compared to expectations at least.

Coming from them I expect these figures are shipped and include pack-ins. And those figures Still would've been laughed at as impossibly low a few months ago.

That said its good to see them still outpacing the 360. The "consoles are dead" morons are looking pretty dumb about now...

I guess that'd be fine for ROTR, but not too great for their major titles

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone report actual sold through numbers for games, actually, not this generation at the very least. So *shrug* These numbers are about as valid as, say, the Bloodborne numbers.

They probably do include pack ins (though I do think that Sony also doesn't, or can't, report sold through numbers, and neither can Nintendo, especially with the onset of digital distribution). But yeah, while the numbers are fine for Tomb Raider and even Forza, for Halo, they are admittedly a bit too low.

Probably, since they do note the bundle in the PR.

Considering Halo 5 is the flag ship game for MS, I'm surprised it's not doing CoD type sells.

People love to put the blame on TR being exclusive to xbox this holiday as the reason for the slow start but I always said it was the timing of the release. If this game was a Playstation exclusive this holiday it wouldn't have sold well either cause of Fallout and Star Wars and CoD which was soaking up EVERYTHING as far as sales. Over time as December moved along it made sense to think it would start to sell more and it seems like that's what happen. It was dumb to release the game the same day as fallout but you know once people got through that game that they would be looking for another game to play and that's where TR comes in. I wouldn't be surprised if the game sold close to or more than 2 million by the time it's released to PC.

Tomb Raider isn't big enough as a franchise to sell that much that quickly. 1 million is a very good number for Tomb Raider, considering it's been out for just two months and only available on a single platform.

Why? 2013's TR didn't have an asterisk nor did you ever call for one and it got its sales on 5 different systems.

You know exactly what I mean. It is being pushed across like it sold a million on the X1, but it isn't true.

These are clearly shipped numbers and not sold to consumers. Also 1 million for ROTR is still a major flop compared to the last game.

That's pretty good stuff. Even with the congestion of third party and exclusives releasing at the same time it was simple to pick up all the greatest games in gaming history on the xbox one. With holiday discounts and buy 2 get one free deals, really helped bring home the success for xbox one software.

Tomb Raider 2013 sold 3 million in three months across three relevant and active systems, there is no way the performance of Rise can be questioned anymore compared to the 2013 game by any standard.

@khoofia_pika: Yeah sold-in as in shipped, not sold through. Yes it is flop compared to the last game. We'll see if that changes with the PC release.

Games like inFAMOUS SS and Bloodborne did 1 million sold to consumers in much less than a month with no price drops.

Oh look, it's cows saying "those are sold-in numbers" based upon absolutely nothing but their petulance and fanboyism

They're good games, glad to see people have been buying them.

Good to hear, I heard that it was selling better in December, probably because it was a secondary consideration aftet Fallout 4 and after Just Cause 3 launched with warning signs, and they had sales on it most of the month.

Hope it sells well on PC.

Didn't SE say something crazy like the number of Tomb Raider was disappointed after a few millions sold between 3 systems?

@charizard1605: Halo 5 had sold over 1 million worldwide in it's first week. It sold like 940K in the U.S. along. Halo games always have legs, so I expect it'll surpass 4-5 million over it's lifetime. Not surprised the other games sold over 1 million. The system is still selling better then the XBox 360 after 2 years.

LOL@QuadKnight having meltdowns. Still can't find anything positive to say about the XB1, can you. LMAO!! You poor sad troll. Between you and StrongBlackVine I don't know who's worse. Oh yeah I do. El Tormo. lol!! So much damage control.

Depends entirely on how much the game cost to make and its marketing budget.

Gears: Ultimate edition was probably the cheapest to produce.

I'm betting it's between 3.2 million and 3.5 million including digital by now depending on how well it sold in Europe and how well it's selling digitally.

@kratosyoloswag

It's probably shipped+digital, but I wouldn't be surprised if both Gears UE and especially ROTR are going to reach 1 million sold through to consumers in the next month or so.

Also the 360 version of ROTTR didn't release until the 2nd week of December.
