Death Stranding HYPE! 9@Gamespot - Dumpster fire everywhere else.

It's best to get this out of the way and while it's getting good. This is Sony's latest timely exclusive in 2019, will Death Stranding be a hit or a miss? Who knows but then again, it's a new IP by Sony, it's rare they come as a miss.

So what is it?: Hell if I know. Kojma loves to troll his fans, that's what he's known for and loves breaking the 4th wall as we speak. Babysitting simulator? Walking/delivery UPS simulator? Take your pick, all I know is, it's an open-world game by Hideo who created Metal Gear Solid games before he left Konami. (Or so they say he left)

Gamespot Review 9/10

I don't want to hate on this game, but hating on it is currently more fun than watching it, or the self-aggrandizing pap around it.

IGN's already decided, practically splooging over it as the second coming. On there 9.5 - 10 scale, probably at least a 10.

Think it will probably be a 7-8 for people into his shit, and about a 6 for everyone else, where a month or two after the media has fapped relentlessly, it will have it's "hang on a" moment as droogs who latch onto that shit wake up from a delayed stupor.

Hideo Kojima will blame his staff, finally giving them credit.

Honestly, you seem to be the only person I see around here making good quality of various hype threads around here which is cool and all. As for this game, my brother is gonna wait for reviews before he buys it on his PS4 but wanna know what I think? This looks boring and dumb in ways I can't describe but other then that, that's just me. I'm sure Sony fanguys will love it. 6 out of 10 is what I think this site will give it.

Realistically, I would think a 7... That being said, 8's/9's are far more likely. Expecting 9 here at GS.

I’m expecting another fantastic Kojima game. I’ve always loved his games especially the Metal Gear Solid games and Death Stranding has me incredibly intrigued. I think that it’ll get mostly 9’s and a few 10’s.

I don't think Kojima or Sony will care much about review scores, as long as the game reaps the profits (i.e. the whole point of a business). If it can pull MGS-like sales, then mission accomplished. Review scores only matter for new brands (as it can help them generate sales), not established brands like Kojima or Sony.

I don't remember Kojima ever blaming his staff over anything. And the only time he ever kind of "apologized" for a game is over Raiden from MGS2, "blaming" Japanese schoolgirls (who said they don't want to play as "old men") and then mocking Raiden in MGS3. I can't imagine Death Stranding getting similar fan backlash, as it's a new IP, not an established IP like MGS. It's not like fans are going to throw a fit over Norman Reedus "replacing" Solid Snake or Big Boss.

Death Stranding was on Conan show and Conan visited their studio. That was very smart. Kojima is doing a good job marketing his game. Celebs is always good way to hype up a game. Celebs, no matter what, will say said game will the best game in the world.

I guess there's no real need for a hype thread.

Given how much the cows have been talking up this game over the years, anything less than 10/10 and GOTY is a flop.

BTW, @davillain-, are you tracking hype or no? I know it's outdated here, but it always helps with people just labelling flops or non-flops at random.

Conan O’Brien seems hyped for it.

Kinda mix with the whole tracking, I wasn't considering tracking hype but I supposed it couldn't hurt to do but I'm sure we'll see hypes after embargo lifts.

This game has been in development for what, almost 4 years now? I guess Cows either move on or just forgot they hype this up. I'll take a guess and assume they lost interest after seeing the gameplay for the first time.

Not Conan. He usually jokes about and makes fun of the games he features on his show. Which he kind of does for Death Stranding at certain points.

Either way, it's good promotion for the game. It plays up the whole weirdness and "WTF" factor surrounding Death Stranding and Kojima.

Interestingly, the segment doesn't mention or show MGS anywhere. Could it be over some legal issue with Konami? Not that it matters, since Kojima is synonymous with MGS (which are always plastered with "A Hideo Kojima game"), so it's not exactly necessary to say "the creator of Metal Gear Solid".

@davillain-: Understandable. I remember tracking by post and updating in OP, but that is a lot of work. As averse to using a poll which can be heavily swayed.

I've got it pre-ordered, I'm very intrigued but nothing from what was shown makes me feel specially optimistic. Seems way too self-indulgent, presumptuous and at times straight up ridiculous. In a very Kojima way, it very much reminds me of Japanese modern cinema, occasionally can be great but more often than not uses eccentricity to mask the lack of anything meaningful to say.

Still, something like this, at this budget level, is not something one can miss.

I appreciate the polish and detail his games have but over the years I have tried my best to enjoy the games he has made and in all honesty I don't care for them, even when I was a kid and played MGS for the first time I never really enjoyed it nor does it stick out in my memory as a incredible moment... The original Splinter Cell game on the other hand, now that sticks out in my memory very much and had tons of fun with that game.

I don't know I have watched the reveal trailer like you lot at was confused... Then I saw the gameplay and just don't care for it, nothing about it looks exciting or appealing to me. Looks great though like all his games for their time.

Its weird that the one thing of his I enjoyed was cancelled... P.T, shame really.

Put me down for an 11/10 where Kojima takes all the credit.

too bad you wont enjoy anything that has deep story and characters.

i dont think all open world suck. i think most are. otherwise this looks more like semi sandbox than ubisoft style open world with cars and sidequests.

Came in to check to see if gaming was saved yet.

Few more hours, the redefining moment for all of us where all traditional perception of game design is changed.

Deep story says the guy who's favourite game this gen is Doom that has the most generic hero and some lovely deep story, deep as a puddle lol, stay a hypocrite ghost.

and Story is also important factor. infact lot of FPS have excellent story but remain focus in gameplay. like Half life and Deus Ex.

best story ever i have seen in original Mafia. excellent gameplay. focus 100% on gameplay but tell incredible deep story.

the thing is, you never played any of these type of games. just racers on xbox. ie waste of time.

I've played plenty of games with stories, now I couldn't tell you if the story was good or shit as I skip all cutscenes where possible, and if I can't I just mute it until that shit is over. I buy a game to play it, not watch some wannabe script writer try and tell a story through cutscenes.
