So I've been out of PC gaming since about 2015, I built a rig in 2012 and it eventually became a more of a video editing PC. But now I want to do some light gaming as well today.

So I decided to build a rig out of my old parts, and upgrade parts incrementally along the way. I started with a new mother board and CPU.

However when I made the switch, I get no output to a monitor to see the BIOS set up. I double checked all my connections, swapped out ram to different slots, had a new cmos battery in, re-seated the graphics card, tried HDMI and DVI connections.......no amount of troubleshooting was giving me a signal.

I ended up putting back my original motherboard and CPU and everything works fine. So I know it's not a PSU issue.

Any thoughts? Specs for each machine below:

Original 2012 Rig :

Phenom X6 1100T Black Edition

HD 6970

1TB HDD

16GB Corsair DDR3 Ram

Asus AM3+ Motherboard

850watt Thermaltake Power Supply

New Parts I wanted to change :

Ryzen 5 1600

8GB Vengance DDR4 Ram

Cooler Master 212 Heat Sink

Asus Prime B350+ Motherboard

@Random_Matt: I have no idea, I can't get a screen to show up to access bios.

I'm thinking either the CPU or motherboard might be dead, since all of my original parts still work and I have a functioning PC when I put it back together with the old parts

@Star67: Did you make sure all power connectors to the motherboard were plugged in correctly? Don't forget about the CPU power.

@BassMan: Yes, all power was plugged in correctly. All of the Fans, GFX Card, HDD, and Motherboard had power lights or were running.

Likewise, when I put all my old stuff back in, everything worked. The CPU power cable is in the same exact place, both new and old motherboards are ASUS.

The only thing I can think of is a RAM compatibility issue, I don't have other types of sticks to test, a GFX card issue since it's on updated drivers and is older, but I don't have another card to test. Or the motherboard or CPU is dead, but the motherboard had lights so I don't think it is. So I'm leaning towards the CPU or RAM

I know my GFX card works because it works just fine with the original MOBO and CPU

@Star67: OK, it's hard to say what the issue is between your MOBO, CPU, and RAM as you want to be able to test each individually.

@Star67:

Does your motherboard supply power to your fans?

What's your memory speed?

It could be an incompatibility between your ram and CPU. First gen ryzen CPUs were known to be picky with ram.

My 1500X for example does not get on well with the ram i have in it unless i am on a certain bios for my mobo (ironically the RAM still has a ryzen logo and was specifically tested for ryzen...apparently :P). On this certain bios i get my 3000Mhz speed and it works fine. Any other bios i have tried....it fails to post and gets stuck in a boot loop.

If you have any other DDR 4 lying around by any chance (or any you could borrow from someone.) it could be worth switching temporarily so you can get the PC to post. Hopefully updating to the latest bios for your mobo and switching back to your own ram will get your CPU and ram on talking terms.

If the latest bios doesn't work it would still be worth going down the list as one of them may work.

It's not a PSU because you're using less TDP with that new Ryzen 5.

If you get nothing from the output and all the fans are working fine without no beep sounds from the MOBO I think it may be faulty MOBO GPU socket, have you tried removing the GPU and plugging the monitor straight to the MOBO? have you tried different PCIe slot? worth a try for sure.

@Star67:

Does that motherboard have have video output? Perhaps it's defaulting to the motherboard/CPU graphics and that's why you're not getting any video output from your graphics card.

@appariti0n:

I haven't tried my old Radeon HD 6950 or HD 5770 into X570.

B350 southbridge has PCIe 2.0 links.
